Health Advantages of the Sperti Light Box
Functional medicine practitioners universally recommend Vitamin D levels to be between 50-80 ng/Ml. Well over half of Americans have Vitamin D levels below 50 ng/Ml. As we all know by now, the best way for our body to make vitamin D is through healthy sun exposure. For most of us living above 30 degrees North latitude, year-round sun exposure for our health is simply not feasible.
What are our options to keep our vitamin D levels in the optimal zone if we don’t live in Florida or Arizona? Food sources can supply some Vitamin D, but it would be almost impossible to get the 5000 or more I.U. /day to keep our levels in the optimal range through diet alone. Supplementing vitamin D is a popular option, but many of us do not convert D3 to the sulfated form that is necessary to be utilized by the body. This explains why many of my clients who are supplementing Vitamin D at 5,000 I.U. per day often still have sub-optimal Vitamin D levels.
The best and most reliable option we have found to raise our Vitamin D levels for the months of October through April and to maintain optimal levels year-round is to use a UV B light box during the months we can’t get healthy sun on our bodies. UV B light is the wavelength our bodies use to synthesize Vitamin D. There are many additional benefits to natural sun and using a UV B light box than just increasing your Vitamin D levels. UV B is used to help overcome chronic bacterial, fungal and parasitic infections. It is used to support healthy hormone and neurotransmitter levels. UV B light is also helpful for healing many skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema.
The Sperti Light Box has been documented to increase Vitamin D levels by an average of 10 points every 15 weeks of use. The great news is that you only need to use it for 5 minutes every other day to achieve these gains! In a matter of months you can raise your Vitamin D levels into the healthy, optimal zone and enjoy many of the other health benefits offered by healthy exposure to UV B light.
